JPEGs
If
your image has many subtle shades of color, you will want to save
it as a JPEG. JPEG stands for Joint Photographic Experts Group
and is pronounced as "jay peg". Sometimes you will see
JPEGs called JPGs--either way is correct. The file format is: .jpg
JPEGs are better for pictures with subtle shades, because JPEGs can use up
to 16.7 million colors. GIFs can only use 256.
Maybe
you're thinking "Why would I save any picture as a GIF, when a JPEG lets
me use so much more color?". Well, for one thing: JPEGs don't save
large solid areas of color very well--they will come out looking sort
of spotted. And...
