When
we hear the word "animation" we usually think of cartoon-like videos, where
life is given to things which are not alive, but animation does not have
to have characters. Animation can refer to the addition of motion. For
example: a video of an apple falling from a tree vs. a picture
of an apple falling
from a tree. The addition of motion to a still picture can often impart
information that the still picture does not.
Animation,
in the context of producing digital information for instructional purposes,
does not need to be fancy in order to be effective. In fact, simple animation
is often more effective than animation that contains unnecessary and distracting
motion. This
section currently has two videos on animation.
How
to Use Animation Effectively: this short video demonstrates how animation
can be used to enhance instruction. It was produced using PowerPoint and
then compressed using Impatica for PowerPoint. The following video, shows
how the animation was created and applied.
Using
Animation: this video shows how the actual animation effects, demonstrated
in the video above, were created. The video was produced using a program
called Camtasia and saved as a Flash Movie.
